FAQ

General Questions

I would like to find more information and FAQs about H2D.
You can refer to the H2D FAQ, Laser Module FAQ, and Cutting Module FAQ for more detailed information.

FAQs for H2D

  • Can H2D be upgraded to H2D Laser Edition?
The H2D laser full combo has a built-in air pump and air pipe on the back of the printer, and is pre-installed with a BirdsEye camera. The front door, left and right side Laser Protective Windows, and top cover are all designed with laser protection. The packaging list includes a laser module, a cutting module, a smoke exhaust pipe and its adapter, as well as an emergency stop button.

We plan to launch a laser upgrade kit for the non-laser version of H2D. The upgrade kit is expected to be released in June and will also provide installation instructional videos to help users complete the upgrade smoothly.

It is important to note that the air pump in the upgrade kit is an external air pump, which has a different installation structure from the built-in air pump in the full set. When using it, it can only be installed externally and connected to the machine through an air tube. The upgraded version will have the same functions and processing performance as the original laser version.

  • Can dual nozzle printing support the simultaneous use of different-sized hotends for printing tasks?
Currently, simultaneous use of different-sized nozzles is not supported. If this feature is added in the future, we will provide information through a firmware update.

  • What is the maximum number of AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT units that the H2D supports? How many colors can it print at most?
The H2D supports up to 4 AMS 2 Pro and 8 AMS HT units simultaneously, for a total of 12 units with 24 slots.

Since the H2D is a dual-hotend printer, in the most extreme scenario, all AMS units can be connected to one hotend while the other hotend uses an external spool holder. This setup allows the printer to support up to 25 colors.

  • Is the H2D compatible with the first-generation AMS?
Yes, the first-generation AMS is fully plug-and-play compatible with the H2D and can be used for multi-color printing. However, it does not support the AMS drying function.
Please note that due to fundamental differences in the feeding mechanism and buffering structure, the H2D does not support the AMS Lite.

  • Can I use A1 series hotends on the H2D? Conversely, can H2D hotends be used on A1 series printers?
While the H2D hotend shares structural similarities with the A1 series hotend, they are not identical.
H2D hotends are specifically designed for the H2D printer, offering:

- A higher maximum volumetric flow rate
- Lower clogging risk
- More precise nozzle offset calibration between left and right hotends
- Automatic hotend type recognition via the live camera

To ensure optimal print quality and a hassle free experience, it is strongly recommended not to use A1 hotends on the H2D.
However, H2D hotends can be used on A1 series printers. If you choose to do so, you must also use the H2D hotend silicone sock for proper compatibility.

FAQs for H2D Laser Full Combo

  • What are the differences between the 10W and 40W laser modules? How should I choose?
Both the 10W and 40W laser modules are blue light lasers that support processing a variety of materials, including wood, rubber, metal sheets, leather, dark acrylic, and stone. However, due to differences in power and size, there are the following distinctions:

- Maximum cutting thickness(For Basswood Plywood):
10W laser module: 5mm;
40W laser module: 15mm;

- Maximum engraving speed(For Basswood Plywood):
10W laser module: 400mm/s ;
40W laser module: 1000mm/s ;

- Processable Area:
10W laser module: Maximum processing area X310mm * Y270mm
40W laser module: Maximum processing area X310mm * Y250mm

Processing range of 10W laser module     Processing range of 40W laser module
                Processing range of 10W laser module                                                     Processing range of 40W laser module

  • What are the wavelengths of the 10W laser module and the 40W laser module, and what type of lasers are they?
The wavelengths of both the 10W and 40W laser modules are 450 nm blue light, and they belong to semiconductor/diode lasers.

  • Are there any special safety precautions I need to take when using the laser function?
Yes, laser processing involves high-energy lasers that can pose safety risks, especially when used on flammable materials. To ensure safe operation, please follow these precautions:

- Do not leave the machine unattended during laser operations. Always monitor its status.
- Ensure the work area is free of flammable or explosive materials to prevent fire hazards.
- Use the machine in a well-ventilated area and ensure the exhaust is correctly managed.

Staying vigilant and taking proper precautions will help ensure safe and efficient laser operation.
Please refer to the following document for more information: Laser Safety Document

  • Will the smoke and dust generated by laser operations affect my printer's precision and lifespan?
The H2D is equipped with an efficient exhaust system that effectively removes smoke and dust produced during laser operations, significantly reducing contamination. During R&D testing, the printer was subjected to rigorous evaluations to ensure that, with regular cleaning and maintenance, the impact of smoke and dust on performance and precision remains negligible.

To maintain optimal performance, we recommend periodic maintenance and cleaning of the machine as outlined in the user manual and the following guide: H2D Regular cleaning and maintenance recommendations

  • Can I process directly on the bottom surface of the laser base without using a support (slats pack and grid panel)?
It is not recommended for the following reasons:

- Limited functionality: Without the support, only surface engraving is possible—laser cutting cannot be performed.
- Risk of interference: The laser module may collide with the platform when processing objects near the edges, leading to processing failures.
- Incorrect height measurement:
The height measurement function is calibrated based on the support surface. Without it, the measurement results will be approximately 15mm lower and may even show negative values. While it is technically possible to proceed with incorrect measurements, this is not advised as it can lead to poor results or hardware issues.

For optimal performance and safety, always use the recommended support system during laser processing.

  • What is the difference between a StrongGrip cutting mat and a LightGrip cutting mat, and what materials are they suitable for?
The StrongGrip cutting mat has a higher adhesive strength compared to the LightGrip cutting mat.

- LightGrip cutting mat: Suitable for most materials and general cutting tasks. It provides enough adhesion to hold materials in place without being too difficult to remove.

- StrongGrip cutting mat: Used for materials that generate large lateral forces during cutting, such as leather and plastic sheets.

- Additional considerations: Materials that shed powder or debris, like leather, can reduce the mat’s lifespan. To minimize this, place the back side of the leather on the mat unless combined with laser engraving.

- In most cases, it is best to stick the smooth side of the material onto the mat for optimal adhesion and cutting precision.

  • What is the role of the transparent film on the cutting platform?
When using the mat, select the corresponding mat facing up according to the materials you are using and tear off the protective film on it (do not tear off the protective film on the side that fits the heated).

Do not discard the torn protective film. When not in use, you can stick the protective film back to the mat to prevent debris from sticking and keep the mat sticky.

  • Can the film on the cutting platform be replaced? How long does it last, and when should it be replaced?
Yes, the film on the cutting platform can be replaced. You can purchase StrongGrip and LightGrip replacement films from the official store.
Replacement guidelines:

- If the film loses its stickiness and can no longer hold materials properly, it should be replaced.
- The service life of the film depends on the type of materials used and the complexity of the cutting pattern.
- Powder-shedding materials (such as leather) will shorten the film’s lifespan, requiring more frequent replacements.

To assist with film application, you can 3D print built-in auxiliary tools available in the printer’s system.

10W laser module: 5mm;
40W laser module: 15mm;

- Maximum engraving speed(For Basswood Plywood):
10W laser module: 400mm/s ;
40W laser module: 1000mm/s ;
