Bambu Lab A1 mini
What materials can the A1 mini print?

The A1 mini can print most of the materials on the market that don't require an enclosure, such as PLA, PETG, TPU, and their support filament. It is not recommended to print filaments such as ABS, ASA, PC, PA, and PET that require higher bed and chamber temperatures.

What is the maximum print size of the A1 mini?

180 x 180 x 180 mm³. For more product specifications, please refer to A1 mini tech specs.

What are the requirements for the filament compatible with AMS lite?

The AMS lite supports spools with a width of 40-68 mm and an inner diameter of 53-58 mm. Avoid using AMS lite to print flexible materials, including TPU, TPE, or absorbent PVA. Avoid using materials that are too hard (too high modulus) or too brittle (not enough toughness), including third-party fiber reinforcement materials (PA-CF/GF, PET-CF/GF, PLA-CF/GF, etc.). Please use external spool placement to print some of these filaments.

Can I use the AMS on the A1 mini?

No, AMS is incompatible with the A1 mini. If you want a multi-color print using A1 mini, you must use the AMS lite.

Can I use AMS lite on an X1 or P1 printer?

AMS lite is incompatible with the X1 or P1 printer. If you want a multi-color print using an X1 or P1 printer, you must use AMS.

Can I use multiple AMS lite units with the A1 mini for up to 16 color prints?

The A1 mini can only support one AMS lite, which means it can print with a maximum of 4 colors.

Does the AMS lite support filament spool backup?

Yes, AMS lite will continue to another spool with the same properties of filament automatically when the current filament runs out.

What is the difference between P1S and P1P?

Compared to the P1P, the P1S offers a fully enclosed printing chamber and a more powerful cooling solution, which includes an Auxiliary Part Cooling Fan for cooling prints, a Chamber Regulator Fan to stabilize the inner chamber temperature, and a Control Board Fan to assist in cooling the control board. Furthermore, we have equipped it with an activated carbon filter to provide a solution for printing filaments such as ABS that are prone to emitting odors and harmful gases during the printing process.

What is the difference between P1S and X1C?

P1S is based on the P1P with an improved cooling solution and enclosure. However, it is not recommended to directly print fiber-reinforced filaments such as glass fiber or carbon fiber, before an extruder and hotend upgrade is done. The X1-Carbon is equipped with Micro lidar for advanced AI detection functions and offers more convenient and efficient screen interaction.

Can P1P be upgraded to P1S?

Yes, P1P can be upgraded to P1S with the upgrade kit. Purchasing an upgrade kit as a set will be more cost-effective than buying individual spare parts.

What accessories do I need to upgrade my P1P to P1S?

How to customize the side panels of a P1P?

We will offer the displayed panel models in 3MF files for you to 3D print and install, while at the same time, you could design your own panels with provided specs from us.  All files will be ready to download on Dec 5th. You are welcome to share your ideas and designs in the community.

Does P1P support printing in multiple colors and various filaments?

Yes! P1P is compatible with AMS and AMS hub, supporting up to 16 colors of 3D printing and various filaments. Check tech specs to see the supported filaments.  Shop AMS and AMS hub if needed.

Does the P1P require assembly?

P1P comes pre-assembled and tested right out of the box. It usually takes less than 15 minutes to set it up, including removing the set screws, connecting the tube, getting the spool holder and screen fixed, and connecting to WiFi. The printer comes with an SD card with preloaded models as well. You could immediately start your first print after running the initial calibration. Watch the official unboxing video.

Can P1P be upgraded to P1S?

Yes, P1P can be upgraded to P1S with the upgrade kit. Purchasing an upgrade kit as a set will be more cost-effective than buying individual spare parts.

Can I purchase the cable chain of P1S and install it on P1P?

We do not sell cable chains for P1S separately, but we do have a cable chain for sale that is compatible with the X1C. If you need to upgrade the cable chain on the P1P or replace the cable chain on the P1S, you will need to purchase the X1C cable chain. You can refer to the guidance for cable chain installation on WIKI.

When will the P1P upgrade package be available online, and how much will it cost?

The P1P to P1S upgrade kit is available on our web store priced at $150 USD. Please note it takes a few days for the kit to arrive at the local warehouse.

Can the Chamber Regulator Fan be installed on P1P?

Yes, it is possible, but you will need to first print an Air Filter Fan Bracket to support the installation of the fan. The printing file and installation instructions are available on the WIKI.

Using Product
With the firmware being proprietary, is there a function for auto shut down at print completion?

After printing, the heating, motor, and fan will be turned off, but the printer, itself, will not be automatically turned off.

Can I upgrade an X1 to an X1-Carbon, and are there any additional upgrade kits that will be available?

Yes, you can buy the parts and upgrade the printer. When upgrading, the Chamber Monitoring Camera can unlock the live view and time lapse functions. Since the AI Spaghetti detection relies on the USB camera, the stock X1 version doesn't come with that feature. Upgrading the auxiliary parts cooling fan can also enable more cooling capacity to achieve higher print speeds without compromising quality. Upgrading to the hardened hotend can allow you to print Carbon/Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer filaments without wiping off the nozzle quickly. Currently, though, there are no 3rd party parts that will work with the Bambu Lab X1 Series 3D printers.

Will all units going to the USA be 110v or will they also support 220v? Also, is there any advantage for a USA customer to hook it up to a 220v connection?

Both are supported. The 220V hotbed heats up faster.In order to protect the machine, when using 220V,the maximum temperature of the hot bed will be limited to 110°C, and the 110V power supply is limited to 120°C.

What safety measures have been taken with the X1 series?

You can monitor the printing live view from the Bambu Handy app, and you can pause/stop printing remotely. While an X1 series machine is printing, it will stop when it runs out of filament. It will also stop printing if the first layer scan fails. Meanwhile, the printer has a temperature alarm system in both the chamber and the heated bed to prevent overheating.

What happens if the internet disconnects during my print?

After the file has been sent to the printer, disconnecting the internet will only affect remote connection via Bambu Studio or Bambu Handy and will not affect printing.

What is the maximum MicroSD card size that the X1 Series supports?

The X1 Series supports up to 2TB cards formatted via FAT32. Please be aware that some formatting applications only support formatting MicroSD cards up to 32GB as FAT32.

How is the firmware updated?

The Bambu Lab X1 series uses OTA firmware updates. As long as you have Wifi connected, turn on your printer, and the server will send a firmware upgrade request.

When using WiFi, does it read the 3MF file during the whole print, or just download it to the machine at the start. Can Wifi go out, and have the print continue uninterrupted?

It just downloads it to the machine at the start and then technically, WiFi can go out and the print still goes on.

How often do I need to calibrate the printer?

You can manually initiate calibration when the printer is idle or enable/disable the calibration before printing processes. We would recommend calibration after moving the printer, changing different filament brands, or after few prints, but it doesn't take long to run a calibration.

Is bed leveling and flow calibration necessary for every print?

Not always. The printer does remember previous settings. If you use the same bed temperature as the previous print, then bed leveling is not needed. If you didn't reboot the machine and are using the same material as your previous print, you can skip flow calibration and vibration calibration as well. You can calibrate it once per week if you maintain the same bed temperature and filament.

It looks like there's 4 speed modes? What's the difference between them all in terms of speed and noise? Specifically the silent one?

Different gears just adjust the acceleration and speed in the original G-code according to a certain proportional coefficient, and the quiet mode adopts the smallest acceleration and speed proportional coefficient.

How long does it takes between you open the box to starting your first print?

It usually takes less than 15 minutes to get the X1 or X1-Carbon set up, including removing the set screw for heat bed, downloading the software and app, and connecting to Wifi. It is a little more complicated with AMS packages. You need to unscrew both set screws for the heat bed and remove the set screws for AMS inside the chamber, and calibrating the AMS usually takes more time than than it would without an AMS.

Can I use the AMS to switch between different materials like ABS and PLA in a single print?

While certain types of different materials may be used during a single print, this option is limited by the type of material itself. Materials with a deviation of temperatures of 15 degrees between each other are restricted within Bambu Studio due to the high probability of clogs within the extruder and/or nozzle, which could result in irreparable damage.

Does the X1 Series support third party filament?

Yes, you can use any filament you like. We recommend using Bambu Lab filament in most situations because all the parameters of material setting such as temperature, cooling power, printing speed have been optimized based on our materials. Other 1.75mm 3rd party filament can also be used, but we're unable to guarantee print quality and performance.

What filament is not usable in the AMS?

1. No TPU will work with the AMS system.

2. Some fragile or soft filaments can also cause problems with the AMS. We are working on a comprehensive list about what filaments do or do not work with the AMS.

Can I use the X1 version to print Carbon filament?

You can print carbon fiber materials if you want, but without the extreme hardened steel nozzle and extruder (20~25Rc on X1, above 60Rc on X1c nozzle), the nozzle can wear down very quickly, so we recommend only printing carbon fiber materials with the X1-Carbon.

Can we use RFID stickers to identify third party filaments as well? If yes, what kind of RFID stickers should we use?

The RFID is for use with Bambu Lab filament only at this time. Opening it might cause other issues at the moment. We are considering the possibility of opening this system.

Is it possible to print on a sheet of other materials?

We also have Bambu High Temperature Build Plate which is more temperature resistant. If you want to use a build plate of other materials, the build plate needs to meet the following conditions:

1. Our lidar needs to work with a smooth and opaque matte surface.

2. The automatic leveling function ABL can only work when there is an area on the build plate to clean the end face of the nozzle

3. Ensure that the hot bed temperature of printing PLA does not exceed 45 ℃ and has good adhesion.

What are the size dimensions of the AMS? Any other specs about it?

L*W*H: 368*283*224mm

Can I use 3rd party spool on AMS?

Yes, you can, but you have to make sure that the width is between 46~70mm, and the diameter does not exceed 200mm.

Why is the hot end a complete design?

1. We need to make integration as compact as possible to save space for the Lidar.

2. We want to reduce the mass of the toolhead to improve speed.

3. We want to reduce the thermal inertial (thermal capacity) to increase the speed of heating up.

4. We want a smooth filament path to reduce both drag and the possibility of clogging, especially considering that the AMS will change filaments many more times than a traditional single filament printer.There is one more benefit of this design, which was not intentional but is nice to have. We can now change the hotend while it is cooling. People who have experience changing a V6 nozzle know what I am talking about.

How can I achieve 16-color printing?

With the help of an AMS hub, multiple AMS can work in parallel. Each AMS supports 4 colors, and 4 AMS will support up to 16 colors. You can hook up to 4 AMS to a single printer with the AMS hub, so it is up to 4*4, or 16 colors or materials.

Can I detect how many hours of use my nozzle has seen for replacements?

We prefer to estimate when hotends need to be replaced by detecting nozzle wear. Different printing habits and filament use can lead to very different hotend replacement needs.

I see the build volume but is some of it taken up by the calibration prints at the beginning?

You only need the calibration when changing the filament or nozzle. You can disable the calibration print when you slice a model or when printing.

What features will and will not work with 3rd party slicers?

AMS, 1st Layer detection via LIDAR, and spaghetti detection do not work when using other slicers.

Are 3rd party slicers compatible with the X1 Series?

Yes, third-party slicers are supported but we currently only have profiles for single-color printing. Additionally, no 3rd-party slicers are currently compatible with some functions, such as first layer inspection and using the AMS. Therefore, we strongly suggest using Bambu Studio for now to get full functionality.

Does the slicer support different temperatures for different materials (in an AMS print)?

It depends on the mutual bonding strength of the materials and the requirement for chamber temperature. For example, ABS and PLA do not support mixed printing. Other materials, with closer temperature requirements, will work.
